RECYCLED CANVAS (or recycled cotton) is fabric made from processing a mix of pre-consumer cotton textiles leftover from textile production and that would otherwise be sent to the landfill.
How is it made?
The process involves collecting unused fabrics from factories and textile mills. Threads are deconstructed from the fabric pieces and spun into yarn and then woven into Recycled Canvas fabric.
Our Recycled Canvas fabric is not dyed. Our colors of Recycled Canvas are the product of sorting fabrics by color and processing together like colors to result in specific colors. For instance, our gray Recycled Canvas fabric is made from processing gray fabrics together. There will be differences in color between each lot. And, some specks of different colors or textures do make it into Recycled Canvas. However, this adds to the distinct look and feel of Recycled Canvas.
Why Recycled Canvas?
The variegated texture of Recycled Canvas gives it an elegant weathered look and a soft, broken-in feel suitable for luxury goods unachievable with regular, run-of-the-mill fabric production. Also, Recycled Canvas appeals to eco-conscious and environmentally-minded consumers. By using Recycled Canvas for manufacturing products, we help promote a zero waste ethos by diverting unused high quality materials from landfills and not letting go to waste the carbon emissions and soil degradation already incurred in growing the cotton.
